Introduction
Occasionally, while on a support call with the Help Desk or a technician, you may be asked to provide your computer name. There are several ways to do this, some of these are outlined below.
Details
Windows 10/11
Method 1
- Open the Control Panel.
- Click System and Security > System. On the “View basic information about your computer” page, see the Full Computer Name under the section Computer name, domain and workgroup settings.
Method 2
- Right-Click the start button at the lower left corner of your screen and select System.
- Under the System > About > Device Specifications section, see Device Name.
Method 3
- Right-Click the start button at the lower left corner of your screen and select Run.
- In the Run dialog box, type “cmd” without quotes. Click OK or select the Enter key.
- This will open a Command Prompt. At the prompt type “hostname” without quotes and press the Enter key.
- Your computer name will appear on the command line output.
MAC OS
- Open the Apple menu.
- Click System Preferences.
- In the System Preferences window, click Sharing. Your computer name will be listed at the top of the Sharing window. Congratulations! You have successfully found your Mac's computer name.
