Introduction

Occasionally, while on a support call with the Help Desk or a technician, you may be asked to provide your computer name. There are several ways to do this, some of these are outlined below.

 

Details

Windows 10/11

Method 1

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Click System and Security > System. On the “View basic information about your computer” page, see the Full Computer Name under the section Computer name, domain and workgroup settings.

Method 2

  1. Right-Click the start button at the lower left corner of your screen and select System.
  2. Under the System > About > Device Specifications section, see Device Name.

Method 3

  1. Right-Click the start button at the lower left corner of your screen and select Run.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type “cmd” without quotes. Click OK or select the Enter key.
  3. This will open a Command Prompt. At the prompt type “hostname” without quotes and press the Enter key.
  4. Your computer name will appear on the command line output.

 

MAC OS

  1. Open the Apple menu.
  2. Click System Preferences.
  3. In the System Preferences window, click Sharing. Your computer name will be listed at the top of the Sharing window. Congratulations! You have successfully found your Mac's computer name.
