Butterfly Mobile App Basic Overview

Provides a basic overview and controls for the Butterfly mobile app, to be used with the Butterfly IQ3 Ultrasound transducer included in the POCUS kit.

Overview

This document will provide a basic overview of features and controls of the Butterfly mobile app pre installed on the iPad included in the POCUS ultrasound kit.

Scanning Screen

The primary screen you will see when scanning a patient

Scanning Basics

There are several features to note when on the scanning screen. Notably:

  • Depth - To adjust the scan depth, slide your finger up or down, or program the probe buttons to adjust
  • Gain - To adjust the gain, slide your finger left or right, or program the probe buttons to adjust
  • Freeze - Tap the snowflake icon at the bottom to freeze the scan. when the screen is frozen, your can will look something like this:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  • Capture - When the screen is frozen, you can hit the capture (camera) button, or enable the "capture studies with iQ3" feature in your settings panel to use the middle button on the probe
  • Zoom - Zoom on the image by double tapping, or pinching in and out with your fingers
  • Preset - Selects different scanning presets for use on different areas of the body
  • Exam Reel - Tapping on the blue square with a number inside it will take you to the current study. It should look similar to the image below: Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

Study Archive

Tapping the chevron in the top left corner of the scan screen will bring you to view your study archive. Here, you can access settings, the Butterfly Education platform, and your saved studies. The page will look like the image below:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

In the archive, you can share an anonymized study. To do so, select the share button in the upper right corner, then choose how you want to share the de-identified images.

Splitting Studies

You have the ability to split a study into more than one. Note: Content can only be split in a draft study. It is not possible to perform the following steps on a study that has been finalized. To split draft studies:

  1. Navigate to the archive screen and select the study you wish yo edit
  2. Select the three dots on the top right corner. From the popup, select Move Content
  3. If you want to import content to the current draft from another study, select Existing Draft. If you want to export from the current study to another study, select New Draft.
  4. On the next screen, select the captures you'd like to move, then tap Continue.
  5. If you chose to create a new draft, the draft has now been created in the same archive, and you can edit, finalize, or delete as needed. Select View New Draft to navigate to it. 
  6. If you chose to move to an existing draft, select the draft you want to move the content to, then tap Confirm. Select View Draft to navigate to the study you moved the content to.

Note: No patient details will transfer from one draft to another, to maintain anonymity. You will need to manually populate the information yourself, and add yourself as the Study Author.

Signing Out

To sign out of the app, either:

  1. Long press on the chevron in the upper left corner, or:
  2. Select the chevron in the upper left corner
  3. Tap your initials on the lower right corner
  4. Tap your name
  5. Tap Log Out.
