Why did I receive an email or Duo Mobile notification from Duo about my devices?

Summary

This notification from Duo is designed to protect you from unauthorized changes to your account.

Body

When a device is added to or removed from your Duo account, or when a bypass code is generated, you will receive a notification confirming whether you made the change.

You will receive an email notification, and any devices on your account with a supported Duo Mobile version will receive a push notification. If you reactivate the Duo Mobile app on a new phone, you will also receive a notice that a device was added.

If you indicate that you did not make the change, your account will be reported to the Pitt Digital Security team for review.

Email Notifications

Duo Mobile notifications will occur when a device is added, when a device is removed, and when a bypass code was created by an IT admin.

  • If you made the change to your account, no action is needed.
  • If you did not make the change, click No, this wasn't me in the email notification. The device change will be canceled and a ticket will be created with the Technology Help Desk for investigation.

Duo Mobile App Notifications

Duo Mobile notifications will occur when a device is added, when a device is removed, and when a bypass code was created by an IT admin. Tap your phone's notification or open the Duo Mobile app and tap View on the banner notification.

  • If you made the change, tap Yes, this was me.
  • If you did not make the change, tap No, this wasn't me. The device change will be canceled and a ticket will be created with the Technology Help Desk for investigation.

Shared or Departmental Accounts

For shared or departmental accounts, the account's email address will receive the email notification, and all users with a connected Duo device will receive a push notification to their Duo Mobile app. Note the Pitt username listed in any notification - if a departmental username appears, another user of the account may have made the change.

If your account is shared, coordinate with other users before making changes to connected Duo devices so that a legitimate change is not marked as fraudulent.
