Connecting to a Projector with an HDMI Cable from a Windows Computer

Summary

Connecting to a projector with an HDMI cable and configuring the audio output on a computer running Windows OS.

Body

1. Connect the HDMI cable at both ends-- One end into the computer's HDMI input and the other end into the projector or the media cabinet interface that leads to the projector. (Note: if using a media cabinet in a campus classroom, make sure the media cabinet's input source is selected to match the label for the HDMI input you've connected into)

2. Make sure the computer is powered on and you are logged in, then press Windows Key + P.

3. In the 'Project' window that opens, you will see four choices:
      1) PC screen only - will only display your desktop and content on your laptop's screen
      2) Duplicate - will display your desktop and content mirrored on both screens
      3) Extend - will display your desktop and content across both screens, with both displays acting like separate monitors (not mirrored)
      4) Second screen only - will only display your desktop and content on the projector's screen

You can click with the mouse or use the arrow keys and press Enter to choose between these options to select your desired configuration. Once doing so the screens will adjust to match your chosen setting.

4. Lastly, you can specify which audio output you would like to use. Click on the sound icon in your System Tray (bottom right-hand corner near the clock), click on the up arrow to view all audio outputs, and then select the desired source. (Note: the language displayed for the projector's output source will not always look the same, depending upon the type of device you're projecting to.)
