Overview
Uploading Zoom Recordings to Panopto is a two-step process.
- Download recordings to your computer.
- Upload recordings to Panopto.
Download Zoom Meeting Recordings to Your Computer
For Cloud Recordings (not available for Zoom HIPAA accounts)
- Sign into Zoom.
- From the left-hand navigation, click Recordings.
- Locate the Topic column, then click the title of the recording you wish to download.
- Click Download.
- Follow the prompts to save the recordings to your computer. Verify the speaker view and the shared screen options appear.
Note: Depending on your recording settings, there may be more than one file to download. Downloaded recordings are saved as .mp4 files.
For Local Recordings
Make sure you saved Zoom recordings on your computer. By default, they are in the following file locations:
- PC: C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Zoom
- Mac: /Users/User Name/Documents/Zoom
- Linux: home/[Username]/Documents/Zoom
If you change the file location for your saved recordings, they will appear at that location. See the Zoom guide to finding and viewing local recordings.
Upload recordings to Panopto
- In your Canvas course, from the course menu on the left, select Panopto Video.
- Click Create.
- Click Build a Session.
- Enter a recording name, select a folder location, then click Create.
- Upload an active speaker recording by dragging and dropping it into the Upload your primary stream window.
- Upload a shared screen recording by dragging and dropping it into the Upload your secondary stream window.
- Two loading bars appear as the recordings are uploaded to Panopto. Click Apply once completed.
Note: The upload process to Panopto can take a few minutes to a full day to complete. Recording length and server traffic may affect processing times. During processing, recordings will not be viewable by you or your students.
Note: Use this process to upload recordings means that some Zoom information will not be available, including meeting ID, chat, and a participant list.
