How to Restore Archived Panopto Video Recordings

Summary

How to restore archived Panopto video recordings.

Body

Overview

You can restore an archived recording using Lecture Capture (Panopto). You must have at least viewer permission to use this feature.

When a recording is archived, the permissions are also stored. Access to archived recordings is permission-based and requires authentication.

All recordings that have been un-viewed after 18 months will be archived in Panopto.  Then if those archived videos remain untouched for another 12 month they will be deleted.

There are multiple ways to restore archived content:

From Search

  1. Visit Lecture Capture (Panopto) via My Pitt.
  2. Use the search feature in the top center of the Panopto ribbon, then select the checkbox in the search filters to the left of Show archived videos.
Note: By default, this checkbox will be deselected
  3. Move the cursor over a recording thumbnail, then locate and select Restore from Archive underneath its title.
  4. The content that is in the process of being restored displays a Video is archived. Video will be available for viewing in <<time remaining>> message.
Note: The recording restoration process may take up to 48 hours to complete.
  5. An email will be sent indicating that the recording has been restored.

From the Web Viewers

Archived recordings that you try to view from the Panopto Viewer or an Embedded Viewer display the following message: This video is archived and must be restored from the archive before it can be viewed. Restoration may take up to 48 hours.

To restore recordings from a viewer:

  1. Visit Lecture Capture (Panopto) via My Pitt.
  2. Click Restore from Archive
Note: The Panopto viewer displays this as a button to the right of the recording thumbnail. Embedded viewers display this as a link that appears over the viewer window.

To restore a folder's archived recordings:

  1. Visit Lecture Capture (Panopto) via My Pitt.
  2. Open a folder in Panopto, From the upper right-hand side of the top toolbar, click Archived.

Note: When this is selected, only archived videos will appear.
