This help sheet walks you through installation of the Lecture Capture (Panopto) Recorder on a Windows-based computer. You can install the software on any computer running Windows 10 or Windows 11. The most important consideration is the amount of available hard drive space so that long sessions can be supported.

System Requirements

  • Windows 10 (and above) (32-bit and 64-bit)

  • Standard Quality: Intel i3 recommended

  • High or Ultra Quality: Intel i7 (4-core) recommended

  • Memory: 4GB RAM

Windows Recorder Installation

  1. Launch Lecture Capture (Panopto) via My Pitt.

  2. In the upper left-hand corner, click + Create.

  3. Click Panopto for Windows.

    ""

  4. If prompted, click Download Panopto in a pop-up window; otherwise, skip to the next step.

    ""

  5. Run the downloaded PanoptoRecorder.exe file.

  6. Select a destination folder to install the recorder, then click Next.

  7. Click Install. The installer self-extracts.

    ""

  8. Open the Recoder and click Sign In.

    ""

  9. Your default web browser will launch.  Enter your University Computing Account username and password, then click Submit.
    Note: Lecture Capture (Panopto) uses the Pitt Passport single sign-on service for multifactor authentication.
