All digital signage will utilize the only approved University platform. This is currently Poppulo by Four Winds Interactive, a comprehensive platform designed to manage and display dynamic content seamlessly. This solution ensures consistent messaging, real-time updates, and enhanced user engagement across all digital displays. HSIT is responsible for making sure that the computers are configured to automatically launch the Poppulo player. HSIT is not responsible for content management. Pitt IT and the vendor offer educational resources for new content editors.
Computer Configuration Standard
- Computers are to be imaged with the digital sign Windows 11 task sequence in MECM.
- Computers are to be placed only in the following organizational unit in on prem-active directory: univ.pitt.edu ->Departments -> HSIT -> Enterprise Signage.
- Computers used for digital signage should have their tag changed in Bomgar to HSIT-Enterprise Signage in order to allow for unattended jump access. A Pitt Digital ticket needs to be submitted requesting unattended remote access to be turned on. This needs to include the specific computer name.
Application Configuration Standard
- Signage shall follow the following scheme: SVCHS - Health Sciences -> Building -> Managing Department. Permission is applied by Pitt Digital at managing department level. This does not yet support CDS groups and is a manual process.
- The following tags are automatically applied at the building level: Building, Support Group.
- The following tags need to be added manually: Building Floor, Sign Orientation, & Room Type
- Add in a short description which would explain anything not covered by a tag. Do not put the hostname in this field. See others for example.
- Use the Health Sciences IT - FourWinds / Poppulo Configuration Utility to assist in the setup process
- Makes the fourwinds local account
- Sets automatic login to fourwinds
- Hides current user task bar (run this in the fourwinds account itself as it is a pure user setting)
- Applies FWI auto-start
- Verifies the Content Player shortcut is on the desktop
Network Configuration Standard
Ethernet:
- All HSIT maintained digital signs will have a preference for an Ethernet connection on a building specific digital sign VLAN. Naming convention: BulidingShortName-PITT-IT-DIGITAL-SIGN-S
- Exception is Pitt signage in a UPMC building, which has its own shared building VLAN for signage. UPMC-PITT-IT-DIGITAL-SIGN-S - 10.226.181.128/27
- There is a NOG, HSIT-DIGITAL-SIGNS, which has a specific SOG applied to inbound and outbound to allow pre-approved traffic to flow. Any new building networks should be added to the NOG in order to get the firewall rules needed to operate and maintain the architecture.
- Inbound rule: SOG SVCHS-REMOTE-ADMIN-SUPPORT to HSIT-FW-DESKTOP-SUPPORT, HSIT-poppuloadmins
- Outbound rule: any, any, any
Wireless:
- All HSIT maintained digital signs which are implausible to be placed on ethernet can be placed on the PITT-MDA wireless network and slotted into the Digital_Signs_White list in ISE groups.
