Butterfly Step-By-Step Workflow Guide

Overview

To provide a quick reference to operation of Butterfly ultrasound wands and accessories. Includes uploading exams, critical patient workflow, finalizing non-credentialed user's study, and performing study QA.

Uploading exams from Butterfly iQ3

Acquiring, resulting, and uploading an exam on a Butterfly device

  1. Log into Butterfly Mobile app using your credentials
  2. Plug Butterfly iQ3 wand into iPad
  3. Scan (freeze/capture images/cine clips) or use the programmable button on the probe to capture images
  4. Tap the Exam Reel - the blue square in the upper right-hand corner, which corresponds to the number of currently captured stills or Cine clips.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  5. Tap Associate Patient (if applicable) to choose the correct patient/order from the Worklist. You may search by name, or MRN.
  6. Tap Add Worksheet, choose the applicable template, fill out worksheet, and tap Done.
  7. Check to make sure you are uploading to the correct archive in the upper right corner.
  8. Tap Save and Upload and choose whether to upload as a Draft, or to Sign the study as final.
    • Note: If you are a resident, you will be prompted to select the name of your attending when uploading an exam as "Final".
  9. You may now begin scanning a new patient, and the Exam Reel counter will return to 0.

After upload, your exam will be available at https://cloud.butterflynetwork.com/ if you need to edit exam details, add worksheets, review, perform QA, or Sign and Finalize.

 

Critical Patient Workflow

Workflow for scanning a critical patient, and adding patient information retroactively

Follow the first four steps from the previous header, then:

  1. Enter any qualified Patient Identifier available to allow you to reference the exam at a later date
  2. Tap Add Worksheet, choose the applicable template, fill out worksheet, and tap Done.
  3. Check to make sure you are uploading to the correct archive in the upper right corner.
  4. Tap Save and Upload and choose to upload as Save as Draft.

After upload, your exam will be available at https://cloud.butterflynetwork.com/ if you need to add the correct patient identifier from a worklist, add worksheets, review, perform QA, or Sign and Finalize.

Process to perform Resident Exam Attestation

Method 1: Mobile App

  1. Attending receives a push notification from Butterfly Mobile app
  2. Log into the Butterfly Mobile app using your credentials
  3. Tap the Notifications tab along the bottom of the application.
  4. Tap Notifications and select the Attestation Required notification.
  5. Review the exam, documentation, and select Finalize

Method 2: Desktop Browser

  1. Attending receives an email notification from Butterfly Cloud (no-reply@butterflynetwork.com)
  2. Click the link to the exam in the notification email, or navigate to https://iusm.butterflynetwork.com/
  3. Review the exam and select Sign and Finalize to attest.
    • Note: You can see all exams that need your signature by navigating to the correct archive, and filtering exams by "Needs Attestation". Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

 

Performing Study Quality Assurance (QA)

Note: You must be on desktop to QA a study.

  1. Log into Butterfly using your credentials at https://iusm.butterflynetwork.com/
  2. Click on Needs QA under My Tasks
  3. Select a study you wish to review. Any finalized study can be QA'd by someone with QA permissions.
  4. Fill out the standard QA card.
  5. Select Submit.

QA results will now be available in the QA Dashboard and in the Study on mobile. You can use the Export button on the dashboard pages to view QA results.
