Understanding the LastPass to 1Password Migration

Pitt Digital is transitioning to 1Password as the University’s new password management service, which provides enhanced security protections and an improved user experience. LastPass, the University’s former password management service, will be retired when the University’s license agreement comes to an end on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025. Please review the following charts to learn more about how this migration may affect you.

What 1Password account is right for me? All current students have access to a 1Password Personal Management account for 4 years. LastPass Business account users will migrate to a 1Password for Business account, managed by the University. These accounts are only for University-related passwords and secrets. If you have an active 1Password for Business account, you will have access to a 1Password Families account for personal use. Only users with an active 1Password for Business account are eligible for a 1Password Families account.
When is 1Password available? Now. Visit digital.pitt.edu/1password to create an account. Sept. 10 Sept. 10 (only 1Password for Business users are eligible).
What happens when LastPass service ends on Saturday, Sept. 27? Your current LastPass account will transition to a LastPass Free account. You will have access to all your passwords and secrets on 1 device or the option to upgrade to a paid LastPass Premium subscription. You will lose all access to LastPass. After creating a 1Password for Business account, you will be unable to add any new passwords or make any changes to your LastPass vaults and folders. Your current LastPass account will transition to a LastPass Free account. You will have access to all your passwords and secrets on 1 device or the option to upgrade to a paid LastPass Premium subscription.

How can I receive support for my 1Password account? If you need support for your 1Password Personal Management plan, email 1Password or see 1Password's support site. If you need support for your 1Password for Business account, submit a ticket to the Technology Help Desk.
