Overview

This document will provide a brief overview of the Meta Quest 3 headset and its controllers, and provide device care instructions. All hardware is sanitized with wipes after every use, and a 5-minute UV light bath every day.

Headset Overview

The Quest line is a series of portable, all-in-one VR headsets made by Meta designed for ease-of-use and quick operation. Below is a 360 walk around of the hardware:

On the left-hand side of the headset is the charging port and the power button

The top and back contain the adjustable Velcro strap to change how high/low the headset sits on your head, and a rear dial to accommodate different head sizes.

On the underside are down-firing speakers for audio, a volume rocker, and an IPD adjustment dial (58-70mm) to accommodate for different eye widths.

Inside the headset on either side of the lens are lens distance adjustment buttons to accommodate for glasses. To adjust, depress the button and slide the visor on both sides. If you are wearing glasses, the lenses should be as far from your eyes as possible to minimize the chance of scratching the lenses.

CAUTION: The visor is very easy to pull off the headset. Be careful when adjusting the lens distance.

Controller Overview

Primary operation of the headset is done with a pair of gyroscopic controllers, as seen below:

The front of the controllers contain standard ABXY face buttons and two depressible joysticks. In addition to these standard features is a Menu button to open in-application menus, and a Meta button, which allows users to return to the main menu, and recalibrate where models are in the headset. All buttons on the top of the controllers contain capacitive sensors, which detect where your thumbs are.

Each controller also has a wrist strap, which should be worn at all times for safety.

The back and undersides of the controllers contain two sets of triggers: Rear analogue triggers (LT and RT, corresponding to which trigger is on which controller), and grip triggers (GT) to be used in games. Rather than tapping A to select options in the headset, selection is usually done by pointing at what you want to select and pulling either LT or RT to select it.

Device Care

With all technology, proper care must be performed when using the equipment. Notably:

  • Do not let go of the controllers when in use
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times
  • Power the device off when finished using
  • Wipe down all touched hardware with disinfectant wipes when done using
    • Note: Disinfectant wipes should not be used on headset lenses. Instead, use a microfiber cloth to clean any prints/dust on lenses in the headset.
  • Return devices to hooks in VR cabinet and plug in when done using
  • Report non-functional equipment to ETL staff if discovered

Failure to follow proper device care instructions may result in fines for damaged equipment upon device return, up to the cost of equipment replacement.
