Overview
This document is to provide basic troubleshooting steps for some commonly encountered problems while using the Meta Quest series of VR headsets
Hardware
My headset is blurry!
Blurriness in the headset can be due to a variety of factors, from smudged lenses to improperly set IPD. Some things you may be able to try:
- Adjust the IPD of the headset by using the dial on the bottom until the on-screen display is clear
- Wipe off front cameras with a microfiber cloth
- Remove headset and wipe internal lenses with a microfiber cloth
- If you wear glasses, adjust the visor distance to its maximum to properly accommodate for your glasses size
My controllers aren't working!
Usually controllers non operating properly are due to a detection issue. Here are some steps you can follow:
- Check and see if the controllers have power. To do so, remove the headset and press either the Menu or Meta button. If the controller has power, a small white LED will flash on the front indicating as such.
- Power cycle the headset by turning it off and back on while holding the controllers.
- Navigate to the Settings app using gesture controls and attempt to resync the controllers following the on-screen prompts.
- Use gesture controls instead
- Try a different headset
My headset won't turn on!
A vast majority of the time, headsets not turning on are the result of not being charged. Some things to try:
- Remove the headset and press the power button. If the headset has charge, there will be indicator LEDs that light up next to the power button.
- Occasionally, a previous user didn't turn the device off and the headset is stuck in sleep mode. Power cycle the device by holding the power button down until all indicator LEDs are shut off, then hit the power button again to turn back on.
- The headset may not be detecting you wearing the headset. In-between the lenses in the visor is a small sensor that detects when you have the headset on. Wipe it clear with a microfiber cloth and try again
- Try a different headset
Software
3D Organon
All I see is a rotating gear!
The software requires a network connection to validate its software license. To verify you are on the network:
- Press the Meta button to open the main menu
- Close out of 3D Organon
- Check in the bottom left corner if you are connected to Wi-Fi. If not, open the Settings app and connect to a network. If you are in the ETL, the headset should automatically connect to Eduroam or Wireless Pittnet. If it doesn't please notify an ETL staff member which headset is encountering the problem
- Try a different headset if the above doesn't work
I can't reset my model!
There are two ways to reset a model in 3D Organon:
- Select a visible organ and select the Reset button on the right-hand menu
- Back out to the main menu and reselect Anatomy to reload the scenario.
- Close and reopen 3D Organon if that still hasn't solved your issue
I can't draw/put bone spurs/slice the model/etc!
The software requires use of the grip trigger to draw, place bone spurs, tumors, pain points, and moving the slicing plane. Be sure you are using the correct trigger to operate the features. If you are, try a different headset and notify an ETL staff member that your headset is having grip trigger issues.
My headset is laggy!
3D Organon is a very robust software capable of individually modelling every organ, joint, vessel, and nerve in the human body individually. This type of modelling is very taxing on headset hardware. As such, we recommend limiting the amount of organ systems you view at the same time to 5-6 to avoid running into performance problems.
If you continue to run into performance problems, try closing and reopening 3D Organon, or restarting your headset.
HoloHuman+
I can't sign in! / The software is making me sign in!
All GigXR software requires end-users to sign in every time to use their software. The ETL provisions devices based on headset, not user - every headset has its own sign-in credentials. The log-in credentials are:
- Username: etlq[device #]@pitt.edu
- Replace [device #] with the number of your device. For example if you are using HSIT-VR-0021, replace [device #] with 21.
- Password: Panther1

I can't grab my model to make it larger/smaller!
HoloHuman+ has no limits on how large or small you can make your model. As such, there is a chance that your model is either too small to grab, or out of grab range. Closing and reopening the software will hard reset the model size.
Whenever my model loads, it's floating in the sky!
HoloHuman+ calibrates model location based on the foot of the model. The bottom of the anchor you place corresponds to the bottom of the model's feet. Ensure the anchor is on the ground when starting the software. If you have not, navigate to the Reset Anchor feature in the options menu on your controller. If that doesn't work, close and reopen HoloHuman+.
