Overview

How to put on the Meta Quest series of VR headsets, enter the app library to use software, and shut the headset down.

Putting the Headset On

To don the Meta Quest series of VR headsets,

  1. Ensure your play area is clear
  2. Grab both controllers and place wrist straps on both wrists
  3. Adjust the dial on the back for the size of your head
  4. Adjust the Velcro strap on top as needed for proper face gasket fit. There should be no light leaking into the headset with exception of the nose area.
  5. Press and hold the power button on the left side of the headset until the Meta Horizon logo appears to turn it on.

Once Inside the Headset

After turning the headset on:

  1. Wait several seconds for the taskbar to appear in the bottom center pane. This looks like (from left to right) a profile icon, time, Wi-Fi, battery, notifications, passthrough option, several apps, and a "square of squares"
  2. If vision is blurry, adjust the IPD dial on the underside of the headset near your left eye.
  3. Ensure the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Without it, most software installed on the headset will not work. To do so:
    1. Look at the Wi-Fi icon. If you see several lit bands, you are good to go. If not:
    2. Point at the Wi-Fi icon and pull the trigger on the controller to select it. This will open the quick settings menu.
    3. Select the Wi-Fi settings
    4. By default, all headsets should be connected automatically to Eduroam when in the ETL and on University property. If it isn't, please notify an ETL staff member to reconnect it. If at home, sign into your local Wi-Fi network.
  4. On the taskbar, select the "square of squares" to open the app list. From here, you can select the app you wish to choose, and open it.

Shutdown

To shut the headset down properly:

  1. Press the Meta button on the right controller to open the main menu.
  2. Close out of the app you are currently using
  3. Hold the power button down until the screen turns black. Ignore any sleep mode or power status panels that pop up.
  4. Remove the headset, clean it, and return to a charging hook, or its carrying case.
