Overview

This document will provide an overview of all end-user features that the VR version of the software HoloHuman+ offers.

What is HoloHuman+?

HH+ is a software aimed at exploring gross human anatomy in AR, VR, and mobile applications. This document will provide an overview into the VR application only, as VR and AR/mobile have slightly different feature sets.

Note: While this software supports gesture controls, they are currently in beta and extremely buggy. We strongly recommend using controllers to operate the software.

Signing In and Setup

Upon first boot of the software, you will be greeted with a sign-in screen. Compared to other software the ETL has (e.g. 3D Organon), HH+ provisions access per-account instead of per-device. As such, users must sign in with "kiosk" accounts we've created. The screen that will display is shown below:

  • Username: etlq[device #]@pitt.edu
    • Note: [device #] is the nonzero portion of the number on your headset. For example, if you are using headset HSIT-VR-0011, your username will be etlq11@pitt.edu.
  • Password: Panther1
    • Note: Password is CaSe SeNsItIvE

Placing the Anchor

Once signed in, the software will prompt you to place an anchor and confirm its location. This anchor will correspond to where the feet of the model will be situated, where the arrow points where the model will be pointing.

To adjust position of this anchor, point at the box and hold GT (or pinch and hold with gesture controls) to grab it and move it to the desired location.

To rotate the anchor, grab the circles on the edges of the anchor and move your arm. Note: This movement is mirrored from what you may expect.

After you are happy with the anchor location, look at the menu and confirm it:

Starting a New Session

Finally, you will need to start a new session. To do so, select the New Session option on the next available menu:

There, you will be prompted to adjust the size, rotation, and position of the new model. Again, hold GT or pinch and hold on the circles to adjust:

To enable a system, point at it and pull GT. Then, point at the "+" icon to add a layer. Select "-" to remove a layer.

  • Note: There is a limit to the amount of layers you can enable and disable due to processing limitations. Be aware of the resource usage meter in the top right of the menu.

The Regions tab will allow you to look at specific regions of the body by themselves. These regions are:

  • Head and Neck
  • Thorax
  • Left and right lower limbs
  • Left and right upper limbs
  • Full body

Controls

To select a structure and open an additional context menu providing information about it, point at the structure and pull either LT or RT (gesture controls: tap thumb and index finger together):

Moving Menus

All movable menus will have a two columns of white circles on either side. To move the menu, point at either column and hold GT (gesture: pinch and hold) to unsnap it and move it to where you like. If you detach the menu from the action bar, an arrow will appear under the action bar to re-snap the menu to it.

Action Bar - Additional Features

Labels

The action bar allows you to put customizable labels on the model by selecting the Label option. From here, you can type in what you want the label to say, where the label floats in space, and what the label points to.

Stages

The Stages tab is the software's "slide deck" feature, where you can create custom scenes and save them for later. To do so, open the Stages tab. By default, Stage 1 is whatever structures you have customized on your model already. From there, you can copy that stage by selecting Duplicate, or start fresh with New stage. The pencil icon will allow you to change the name of your stages.

Note: Labels also apply to individual stages. If you have labels on one stage and create a second, they will not carry over.

When you have all your desired stages created, you need to save your session to save it for later.

Session

Under the Session tab, you will be able to view what users have joined your session, save your session, and copy a session. Additionally, you may lock the session so that you are the only one with model control if there is more than one person in your session. You may also end the session you are hosting in this tab.

For users that would like to join a session in progress, they may do so after singing in but before they create their own session. They would need to point at the desired session and pull GT to select one to join.
