Overview
The Database View of applicants' lives outside of the reader and is where you can get information about what is happening with an applicant’s record, as well as take action to troubleshoot common issues.
Accessing the Database View
You can access the database view of an applicant in various ways:
- Searching for the applicant by name from the upper right-hand corner of Slate.
- Clicking on the applicant’s name from the reader view and selecting ‘Lookup Record’.

The database view lets you view additional information and lets you take actions on an applicant. These include, but are not limited to:
- Impersonating an applicant to view their application or portal.
- Downloading a PDF of the applicant’s information.
- Applying a fee waiver to the applicant’s record.
- Checking on details of submitted materials.
- Viewing the status of checklist items.
- Applying decisions.
Impersonating an Applicant
- To impersonate an applicant to troubleshoot issues or see the system from their point of view, you can click on the Impersonate > Applications (to view the application) or Impersonate > Status Page (to view the applicant’s portal) links in the right-hand navigation. **Please note, as an administrator, any changes that you make to the application or portal will be live to the student.**

Downloading a PDF of an Application
- Click on the Download PDF link in the right-hand navigation.
- In the pop-up window, choose which content you would like to have included in the PDF.
- Click Download.

Applying a Fee Waiver
- Fee waivers can be applied to an individual application via the Activities section on the Database View of an applicant.

- First, locate the payment due activity in the list of activities. This will tell you how much the applicant owes.
- To apply a fee waiver, click on ‘New Activity’.
- In the pop-up, select the appropriate Code, Payment Type, and Payment Account. The payment Amount should be set for the application fee.

- Click Save. You will now see the waived payment in the list of activities. Please note, it may take up to 30 minutes for the applicant to move to the next step in the system.
