Detail
Recommended Content Formats
To ensure that you are presenting the most accurate and up-to-date information, Pitt IT strongly recommends that you provide content for Pitt Mobile in one of the following formats:
- RSS news feeds
- Public Google calendars
- Twitter announcements (tweets)
These three formats allow your content to be dynamically updated on Pitt Mobile. For example, if you use an RSS feed to publish news articles to your website, then those news articles will be automatically updated on Pitt Mobile as well. Similarly, upcoming events that are published to your website via a public Google calendar will be automatically published to Pitt Mobile.
You may also provide content for Pitt Mobile in a "static" format, such as an html page or a PDF document. For example, you may ask us to post the hours of operation that you have listed on your area's webpage. However, be aware that any changes you make to static content on your website are not automatically updated on Pitt Mobile. If you supply content for Pitt Mobile in a static format, it is your responsibility to notify Pitt IT in advance whenever your content on Pitt Mobile needs to be updated.
Maintaining Your Content on Pitt Mobile
If you currently have content on Pitt Mobile, follow the guidelines below to ensure that your information is kept up to date.
RSS Feeds
If you publish content using an RSS feed, make sure your RSS feed is scheduled to publish on a daily basis. If your RSS feed only publishes information once per week, then your content will only be updated once per week on Pitt Mobile.
Public Google Calendars
Once your public Google calendar has been posted to Pitt Mobile, continue to use that same calendar to list your events. Pitt Mobile will only recognize updates that are posted to that exact calendar. Notify Pitt IT in advance if any of the following situations apply:
- You plan on deleting your public Google calendar
- You plan on replacing your existing public Google calendar with a different Google calendar (for example, if you create a new calendar at the start of each term)
- You plan to create an entirely new Google calendar that you want to add to Pitt Mobile
Static Content
If the source for your content on Pitt Mobile is a webpage or a PDF document, keep in mind that any changes you make to your content will not be automatically applied to Pitt Mobile. You will need to contact Pitt IT in advance whenever your Pitt Mobile content needs to be updated. Please notify us of changes one week in advance by submitting a request online or calling 412-624-HELP (4357).
