What is the transition process?

All users with primary accounts that were enrolled in LastPass Business have been automatically provisioned in 1Password.

Pitt Digital migrated all LastPass Shared Folders to 1Password Shared Vaults upon launch of the service on 9/10/2025. When shared folders are imported from LastPass, permissions are also imported automatically. Each shared folder gets converted into a vault, every item in the shared folder is added to the vault, and permissions for the folder are also applied to the vault. Any changes to shared credentials will not be transferred from LastPass to 1Password after that date, since the 1Password migration tool does not overwrite existing data matches. So, existing users should to not modify any credentials in Shared Folders in LastPass on or after 9/10/2025.

When you import Shared Folders from LastPass:

  • Each Shared Folder is converted into a Vault, and all items in the folder are copied.
  • Vault Permissions are applied based on LastPass settings as outlined below:
    • LastPass Permission 1Password Permission
      Administer  Manage Vault
      Read-only View Items
Hide passwords Removes "View and Copy Passwords" Permissions
  • Vault items are applied based on LastPass item types as outlined below:
    • LastPass item type 1Password item type
      Password Login
      Address Identity
      Application Login
      Custom item Secure Note
File or one-time password attached to an item Automatically attached to the same item.*
Bank Account, Credit Cards, and others Equivalent item type

Due to the zero-knowledge nature of password managers, current LastPass Business users are responsible for migrating their individual vaults. This is because only the user, not LastPass or Pitt Digital admins, can access the contents of a users’ LastPass vault. 1Password offers a migration tool to import directly from LastPass in a secure way. For directions visit the 1Password webpage Move your data from LastPass to 1Password in the desktop app.
