Overview
We've encountered several customers who have been having the colored presence indicators in Outlook disappear completely. Below are a few troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.
Detail
Troubleshooting Steps
- Verify that Teams is installed and running on the device
- Verify that Online Status is enabled in Outlook by doing the following steps:
- Click on the "File" tab located in the top-left corner of the Outlook window
- Select "Options" from the File menu at the bottom-left corner
- Click "People" in the left hand navigation of the options pop up
- Scroll down to the section named "Online status and photographs" and ensure that the checkbox for "Display online status next to name" is checked
- If the check box at the end of the above steps was greyed out, follow the following steps to check Teams chat app registration:
- In the Microsoft Teams application, click the three dots located next to your profile picture in the top-right corner and select "Settings"
- On the "General" tab scroll down to the series of checkboxes beneath "Application"
- Make sure the box next to "Register Teams as the chat app for Office" is checked
- If it was already checked, un-check the box, restart all of your office apps, and then follow steps 3.1-3.3 again
- Restart all office apps and check for presence bubbles in Outlook
- If all else fails, try to uninstall and reinstall Teams
