Connecting to Printer Queues on Pitt Digital’s Enterprise Print Server from Linux Computers

Linux printing is not formally supported by Pitt Digital. However, the process set up for printing from MacOS can also work on some Linux systems.

1. Install and connect to the Global Protect client for Linux: https://services.pitt.edu/TDClient/33/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=2741

2. Visit Enterprise Print Server - Home (sharepoint.com) and click on ‘Printer Install Commands for MacOS’.

3. This file repository contains text (.txt) files that list custom MacOS/Linux printer install commands. Locate your department in the alphabetized list and click on the file to preview it in-browser.

5. Open a Command Shell (Terminal) on your computer. Press Control + V to paste in the plain text command.

6. Press Enter once and the command will run. Department printers are now added.
If displayed, you may ignore the message “Printer drivers are deprecated and will stop working in a future version of CUPS.”

7. When you send the first print job to the printer you will be prompted for credentials to access the print queue. Enter your Pitt username (PITT\username) and password at this window to authenticate and send the print job.
