Overview
Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) is a cloud-based suite of productivity and collaboration tools. It brings together popular Google apps, such as Drive, Classroom, Meet, Calendar, and Docs, into a single integrated workspace.
In addition to the University's recommended cloud collaboration and storage services, all faculty, staff, and students have access to Google Workspace at no cost. Sponsored accounts are addressed on a case-by-case basis; please contact the 24/7 Technology Help Desk for more information.
Note: Upon graduation (transition to Alumni status), students will lose access to Google Workspace, including any files they own as well as access to anything that is shared with them in the Google environment.

Using a Pitt account with Google Workspace
When using Google Workspace with your Pitt username and password, the University’s single sign-on service (Pitt Passport) and Multifactor authentication (Duo Security) provide an increased level of protection and security for your Google Workspace information and data when compared to personal access to Google Workspace.
Getting started with Google Workspace
You will need to complete a few simple steps to create your University-affiliated Google account. Follow the directions that match your situation.
I am currently logged in to a personal Google Account
1. Visit accounts.google.com
2. Click your profile picture in the top right corner of your user dashboard
3. Select Add another account
4. Sign in with your username@pitt.edu account
5. Follow the Pitt Passport sign-in steps
6. Once multifactor authentication is complete, your Google account will be active. Manage your account in the Account Dashboard and access apps with the menu in the top right corner of the page.

Apps and tools included in your University-affiliated Google Workspace account
Google Workspace Core Services make up the basic set of educational tools and services offered by Google. They include:
- Calendar – Time and schedule management tool.
- Classroom – Classroom management and assessment services designed for educators.
- Drive – Cloud storage for saving and sharing of files.
- Docs – Word processing tool that is part of the Drive suite of apps.
- Meet – Virtual meetings for sharing video and presentations with teams.
- Jamboard Service – Cloud-based digital whiteboards for sharing and collaborating.
Google's Additional Services were created for consumer users. These apps include YouTube, Google Analytics, and more. Availability varies with the University-affiliated Google account.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my Google Workspace account grant me access to use Gmail with my Pitt address?
No. The University's exclusive email service is provided by Microsoft Outlook. There are no plans to change in the future.
Can I merge my personal Google account with my Pitt Google account?
No. When you create a Google account with your Pitt Credentials, it will remain separate from any other Google accounts you may have already created.
What’s my storage limit with my Pitt-associated Google Drive account?
Each user has up to 15GB storage space available in Google Drive. Additional Google Workspace storage can be added to any Faculty or Staff Google Workspace account. Storage is available in 100GB increments, at a cost of $48 per 100GB, annually. Authorized department purchasers can also purchase additional storage via Panther Express.
What’s included with Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)?
Your University access grants you free access to Google Drive, Classroom, Meet, Calendar, and Docs. Access to more Google apps may be offered in the future, as Google continues to develop its product line.
What is the difference between G Suite and Google Workspace?
Google transitioned the set of apps known as “G Suite” into a more integrated experience and rebranded it as Google Workspace to more accurately represent the product vision.
