How to Log In to Globus and Copy a File

Tags Globus

Overview

This article will guide users through the steps needed to log in to Globus with their Pitt account to allow them to copy/move files using the tool.

What Is Globus?

Globus is a tool that copies files. It enables you to copy files to or from Globus Collections. Each collection is essentially a folder with your files in it. Globus does not store files. Your files in each collection are in a storage service like OneDrive, AWS S3, or your own computer’s hard drive.

How to Log In to Globus and Copy a File

  • Open a Web browser, such as Google Chrome, and go to the Globus Web app: https://app.globus.org.

  • Search for University of Pittsburgh then sign in with your Pitt Passport (your @pitt.edu address).

  • Link Globus to your university account by pressing "continue" and "allow".

  • Welcome to Globus! Click the search bar. Type the name of the collection you would like to copy files to or from, then select it.

  • Permit Globus to use your Pitt account with this collection. Click your username when it is shown.

  • Congratulations! You can now upload and download files by selecting them and clicking the buttons along the right.
