OneDrive and SharePoint File Storage Limitations

OneDrive and SharePoint do not support all file types and attributes.

Symbolic links

Symlinks are not supported. Uploading a symlink will upload the target file's contents instead. The symlink relationship will not be preserved.

File permissions

File permissions and access control lists (ACLs) are not supported. Any custom permissions will be lost on upload and will not be restored on download.

File and path naming

  • The following characters are not allowed in file or folder names: \ / : * ? " < > |
  • Path lengths cannot exceed 400 characters, and individual files cannot exceed 250 GB.
