How to Increase My Linux Timeshare Quota

Overview

The Linux Timesharing Service has a default quota of 5 MB, but this quota may be increased using the below button.

Note: as mentioned below, you can only increase the quota if you have less that 500mb remaining space, and it can only be increased every 30 days. If you need more quota than the increase can provide in that span, please see the Need Help section.

Self-Service Steps to increase Unix Quota

  1. Login to https://accounts.pitt.edu/Unix/
  2. Wait for the current usage information to load
    1. Click Increase Quota
      1. Self-service increases allow for a 1 GB increase
    2. This button may not appear if:
      • The quota was changed within 30 days
      • The available quota is greater than 500 MB from the amount used.
    3. If the button doesn't appear, see the Need Help section.
  3. If successful, you'll see the "Unix Quota Updated!" message - it can take some time for this to reflect in the system, but the additional quota should be available shortly.
