Activating Your University Computing Account

Summary

The Self-Service Account Activation process is used by Pitt applicants, students, and employees for setting up their University Computing Account. A University Computing Account is the key to accessing technology resources at the University — including email, PittNet Wi-Fi and wired networks, computing labs, and Pitt Worx.

Body

Overview

Account activation steps for Pitt applicants, students, and employees are:

  1. An email message that contains a link to begin the activation process will be sent to the email address used on the student’s or employee’s application.
  2. Recipients must enter their first name, last name, and date of birth to initiate account activation.
  3. The user must also provide other identifying information in order to confirm their identity.
  4. The user will then request that a code be sent by text or email, then enter the code to continue the activation process.
  5. The user must agree to the University's Technology Use Policy.
  6. The user must then set up their password reset security questions.
  7. The user will then set their password.
  8. The account will now be activated. The account username will be presented on the final screen along with additional links and information, depending on their account type. This same information will also be sent in an email for future reference.

Instructions are also available on the account activation page and Technology website.
