⚠ PittNet Wi-Fi Certificate Renewal — Action May Be Required
Pitt Digital renewed the University's PittNet security certificate on June 20 as part of the annual renewal to maintain wireless security. Wi-Fi services remained uninterrupted during the renewal.
If you are experiencing certificate-related trouble connecting to PittNet or GlobalProtect VPN, resolve the issue by doing one of the following:

ℹ Updated Network Names in Wi-Fi 6 Areas
When connecting new devices in areas upgraded to Wi-Fi 6 infrastructure as part of Pitt Digital's ongoing network modernization initiative, select these updated network names:
- PittNet (alternative to retired WIRELESS-PITTNET)
- Pitt Guest Wi-Fi (alternative to retired PITT GUEST WI-FI)
Both current and legacy network names will continue to function until Pitt Digital communicates retirement timelines with ample advance notice.

Important Notes
All Mobile Devices and Linux
After making settings changes, some Linux devices, smartphones, or other mobile devices require a restart before the connection takes effect.
Linux — PEAPLABEL Setting
Some Linux distributions require an additional configuration option called PEAPLABEL. For most devices, the default setting of Automatic is sufficient. However, some devices may require PEAPLABEL to be explicitly set to Version 0 if the automatic setting does not result in a successful connection.
Android — Additional Settings That May Be Required Based on Android Version
- CA Certificate field — set to Use system certificates
- Online Certificate Status — set to Do Not Validate
- Domain field — enter pitt.edu
- Identity / Username field — enter your full email ending with @pitt.edu
Compatible Devices
The following device types are supported for connection to PittNet Wi-Fi using the settings above:
- Smartphones (iPhone, Android)
- Tablets (iPad, Android tablets)
- Laptop computers running a Linux operating system
- Laptop computers that use a third-party wireless client (for example, an Intel or Gateway wireless client)
- Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs)
Incompatible Devices
The following devices or configurations are not compatible with PittNet:
- Bluetooth equipment — Bluetooth uses a different wireless signaling protocol than PittNet Wi-Fi. Both technologies operate in the 2.4 GHz frequency range; using Bluetooth devices in the same location as PittNet Wi-Fi may negatively affect wireless network performance.
- Older wireless cards, drivers, or network managers that do not support WPA3 networking.
- Gaming consoles and Smart TVs — these devices cannot authenticate to WPA3 networks. They must be registered separately. See Connect your Gaming Console or Smart TV for instructions.
