PeopleSoft Session Security Time Out

Overview

Information related to the PeopleSoft session security time out setting

Detail

For security considerations, the PeopleSoft inactivity time out is set to end a session after 30 minutes of inactivity.  So long as the customer has pop up notifications enabled for their browser, they will get a pop up warning at 28 minutes stating: "Your session is about to expire. As a security precaution, sessions end after 30 minutes of inactivity.  Click OK to continue your current session."

Responding to that time out pop up warning by clicking OK, will reset that activity timer.  If the time out warning is not responded to and there is no activity recognized by the system, the session will end 2 minutes later.

System activity is transaction data against the database.  There are some actions that a customer may be doing that does not generate recognized system activity, like composing an email using the email notification feature from a class roster for example.

Any request to extend the inactivity timeout should be directed to the Pitt IT Security Team.
