The Virtual Computing Lab was upgraded to Windows 11 on Aug. 17, 2024. The upgrade did not change the way students access the service:
- Access pi.tt/vlab from your web browser or launch the Remote Desktop Client if you have it installed.
- Click the icon named “Pitt IT – Virtual Student Computing Lab”.
Students may need to recreate any desktop shortcuts to the Virtual Computing Lab after the upgrade.
Remote Desktop Client: Removing the Previous Service
After the upgrade, Remote Desktop Client users will notice two headings with similar names:

- The icon under the heading “Pitt IT – Virtual Student Computing Lab” connects your device to a virtual session running the Windows 11 operating system.
- The Remove button under the heading “Pitt IT - Remove Me - Windows 10 Virtual Student Computing Lab” removes all traces of the previous service from your Remote Desktop Client. A similar heading may also appear in your Windows Start menu.
