Definitions of PeopleSoft Security Roles

The PeopleSoft Student Information System consists of several modules that support the entire life cycle of a student. Access to these modules and related responsibilities are grouped into PeopleSoft Security Roles. Through the submission of a Federated Authorization Request, security contacts request PeopleSoft access privileges for individuals within their Responsibility Center. This article provides information on the defined PeopleSoft Security Roles with a summary of the access that each provides.

♦ Denotes Security Roles that provide a level of access that requires Data Steward approval beyond the Responsibility Center PeopleSoft Security Contact and Supervisor once a Federated Authorization Request is submitted.

Default Roles

The following Roles are assigned to User Profiles by default as applicable. These Roles should not be included when submitting a PeopleSoft Federated Authorization Request for New, Modify or Remove user access.

System Managed Roles

The following Roles are assigned to User Profiles by system processing. These Roles should not be included when submitting a PeopleSoft Federated Authorization Request for New, Modify or Remove user access.

SS_ADVISORS Advisor Self Service System assigned when the individuals PeopleSoft ID associated with their Account/User Profile is added to the Instructor/Advisor Table with the Advisor checkbox checked. Updating the individuals Instructor/Advisor Table entry to a Status of Inactive will remove the SS_ADVISORS and if applicable, SS_INSTRUCTORS Role.
SS_APPLICANTS Applicant Self Service System assigned when an individual meets the admissions applicant criteria. This Role will be removed and replaced with SS_STUDENT when the applicant meets the criteria as a student.
SS_ENROLLMENT Student Enrollment Self Service System assigned when a student meets self service enrollment criteria. This Role will be removed when a student no longer meets self service enrollment criteria. 
SS_INSTRUCTORS Instructor Self Service System assigned when the individuals PeopleSoft ID associated with their Account/User Profile is added to the Instructor/Advisor Table and the Instructor Type is not set to Advisor Only. Updating the individuals Instructor/Advisor Table entry to a Status of Inactive will remove the SS_INSTRUCTORS and if applicable, SS_ADVISORS Role.
SS_STUDENT Student Self Service System assigned when an individual meets the student criteria; Admissions Application set to Intent to Matriculate (DEIN), Matriculated with an active Student Program/Plan, or a completed Student Program/Plan with a Completion Term of 2154 (Spring Term 2154) or later.
PITT_GCR_DEPT_ADMINS Grade Change Workflow System assigned upon Office of the University Registrar adding the individual to the Academic Org Person Setup for Grade Change Workflow. To remove this Role, contact the Office of the University Registrar to have the individual removed from the Academic Org Person Setup for Grade Change Workflow.
PITT_CSU_DEP_ADMINS Class Section Update Workflow System assigned upon Office of the University Registrar adding the individual to the CSU Academic Org Setup for Class Section Update Workflow. To remove this Role, contact the Office of the University Registrar to have the individual removed from the CSU Academic Org Setup for Class Section Update Workflow.
PITT_GCR_DEPT_ADMINS Graduation/Degree Change Workflow System assigned upon Office of the University Registrar adding the individual to the Academic Program Security setup for Graduation/Degree Change Workflow. To remove this Role, contact the Office of the University Registrar to have the individual removed from the Academic Program Security setup for Graduation/Degree Change Workflow.
PITT_IMGNOW Perceptive Content Pass-Thru System assigned with the individuals Account/User Profile is added to an Active Directory Group associated with access to Perceptive Content. To remove this Role, contact the individual within your school/department that has access to add and remove users from their respective Perceptive Content related Active Directory Group, or contact the Perceptive Content Team for assistance.
