How To Update MacOS on Pitt-Managed Computers (Jamf)

Keeping your MacOS up to date is a crucial piece to ensuring your device is running properly as well as meeting the standards of Pitt Digital support as Pitt Digital only supports the latest 3 generations of MacOS’s, so keeping your machine up to date also ensures that it continues to function with university resources.

 

Apple computers will prompt users for updates when available and new updates are released yearly. To initiate an update please see the instructions below.

 

  1. IMPORTANT: Be sure you have a backup of your data prior to any major MacOS update.
     
  2. Submit a Service Request through the help desk with the subject of “MacOS Update” and include your devices serial number in the ticket. To find your serial number go to “Apple Logo (Top Left Corner) > About This Mac
     
  3. Once Pitt Digital receives your request a technician will review your machines details and assign the appropriate update to your machine (if available)
     
  4. Following the update being assigned to your machine you will then proceed to the Self Service application, which can be found in the applications folder

  5. In Self Service, scroll to the MacOS that was assigned in the list of apps
     
  6. Click Install (Please allow 30 – 90 minutes for update, charger required
     
  7. Your machine will automatically restart, once complete.
     
  8. Done
