How To Update MacOS on Pitt-Managed Computers (Jamf)

Keeping your MacOS up to date is a crucial piece to ensuring your device is running properly as well as meeting the standards of Pitt IT support as Pitt IT only supports the latest 3 generations of MacOS’s, so keeping your machine up to date also ensures.

 

Apple computers will prompt users for updates when available and new updates are released yearly. To initiate an update please see the instructions below.

 

  1. IMPORTANT: Be sure you have a backup of your data prior to any major MacOS update.
     
  2. Submit a Service Request through the help desk with the subject of “MacOS Update” and include your devices serial number in the ticket. To find your serial number go to “Apple Logo (Top Left Corner) > About This Mac
     
  3. Once Pitt IT receives your request a technician will review your machines details and scope the appropriate update (if available)
     
  4. Following the update being scoped to your machine you will then proceed to the Self Service application.

    Please Refer to the “Using Self Service Application” article for more in depth guidance on Self Service.
     
  5. In Self Service, scroll to the Update in the list
     
  6. Click Install (Please allow 30 – 90 minutes for update)
     
  7. Your machine will automatically restart, once complete.
     
  8. Done
