6. When you send the first print job to the printer you will be prompted for credentials to access the print queue. Enter your Pitt username (PITT\username) and password at this window to authenticate and send the print job. Check the box for Remember this password in my keychain so MacOS remembers your credentials for next time.

Note: see the Tech Pro Tip below for clearing and re-entering saved Keychain credentials after a Pitt password reset.

Tech Pro Tip

Pitt computing accounts operate on a password update cycle that is enforced every 180 days. When your Pitt password changes, the MacOS built in ‘Keychain’ password manager will begin to throw error notifications as it can no longer resolve the “old” password it has saved with the “new” password set because of the 180-day update cycle.

Use the ‘Printer Password Fix’ Self Service policy to clear the previously saved Keychain password for your Pitt credentials and enter in your newly set password when prompted the next time you print.

Printing from personally owned/unmanaged Mac computers

Connecting to printers from non-Pitt-managed Mac computers requires you to manually look up the command and then run it in Terminal. Perform these steps to do so:

1. Visit Enterprise Print Server - Home (sharepoint.com) and click on ‘Printer Install Commands for MacOS’.

2. This file repository contains text (.txt) files that list custom MacOS printer install commands. Locate your department in the alphabetized list and click on the file to preview it in-browser.

3. Click once inside the preview that opens, then press Command + A to select all followed by Command + C to copy the selection.

4. Now that you have copied the command in plain text, go to your Spotlight search function on the Mac desktop and key in the word “terminal” then press Enter.
