ℹ Updated Network Names in Wi-Fi 6 Areas
In areas upgraded to Wi-Fi 6 infrastructure as part of Pitt Digital's ongoing network modernization initiative, select these updated network names when connecting new devices:
- PittNet (alternative to WIRELESS-PITTNET)
- Pitt Guest Wi-Fi (alternative to PITT GUEST WI-FI)
Both current and legacy network names will continue to function until Pitt Digital communicates retirement timelines with ample advance notice.
Overview
PittNet provides fast, secure, and easy-to-use internet access from regional campus residence halls and academic buildings (opens in a new tab) across campuses. MyResNet provides high-speed access from residence halls and University housing on the Pittsburgh campus.
If you want to access restricted University resources, such as digital research journals, databases, and departmental printers, you will need to use the PittNet VPN (virtual private network) service (opens in a new tab). Students can print from PittNet Wi-Fi using Pitt Print (opens in a new tab).
Please remember that PittNet Wi-Fi is a shared resource, meaning your actions affect others on the network. By following our wireless guidelines, you can help make PittNet Wi-Fi a great service for everyone.

Take these steps to connect to:
PittNet
The below instructions will take you through a fresh setup for PittNet. If you've already connected to PittNet in the past, you may need to edit/modify the existing connection to update your password. If you have any issues with this, you can always forget the existing connection and start fresh. There are links further down the page for connection instructions for most devices.
PittNet Wi-Fi: From a Phone or Tablet
- Go to settings on your device and select Wi-Fi
- Click the network named PittNet
- Enter the username and password for your University Computing Account and click join. Do not include your full email ending in @pitt.edu
Example:
- Your device may prompt you to approve a certificate. Click Trust. This is required for your device to connect to the network.
- Congratulations! Your device should automatically connect to Wireless PittNet in most university-owned buildings.
Tip: If you change the password to your University Computing Account, you must forget this network and repeat the steps to reauthorize your device(s). Otherwise, your device will not connect to PittNet.
Don’t see a prompt and have trouble connecting to PittNet?
Complete these steps:
- Delete or forget PittNet from your list of known networks.
Note: On a mobile device, available networks are usually listed as part of your device’s settings.
- Re-connect to PittNet.
From a Computer
Some computers will connect to PittNet after you select it from the list of available networks and enter your username and password. On other computers, a pop-up message similar to the one shown below may prompt you to connect. If a prompt similar to the one shown below appears, simply click Connect.
If you do not receive a prompt and have trouble connecting to PittNet, please contact the Technology Help Desk at 412-624-HELP (4357) or submit a help request online.
Staff or faculty planning to connect to public ports in classrooms or conference rooms should first run the Wired Network Configuration Wizard. Complete these steps before you connect your computer to the network port:
- Log in to the Software Download Service.
- Search for Wired Network.
- Click the option for your operating system (Mac or Windows), and then click Download.
- Open the file and run the automated network configuration tool. This will update your computer.
