Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Verify that Teams is installed and running on the device
  2. Verify that Online Status is enabled in Outlook by doing the following steps:
    1. Click on the "File" tab located in the top-left corner of the Outlook window
    2. Select "Options" from the File menu at the bottom-left corner
    3. Click "People" in the left hand navigation of the options pop up
    4. Scroll down to the section named "Online status and photographs" and ensure that the checkbox for "Display online status next to name" is checked
  3. If the check box at the end of the above steps was greyed out, follow the following steps to check Teams chat app registration:
    1. In the Microsoft Teams application, click the three dots located next to your profile picture in the top-right corner and select "Settings"
    2. On the "General" tab scroll down to the series of checkboxes beneath "Application"
    3. Make sure the box next to "Register Teams as the chat app for Office" is checked
    4. If it was already checked, un-check the box, restart all of your office apps, and then follow steps 3.1-3.3 again
    5. Restart all office apps and check for presence bubbles in Outlook
  4. If all else fails, try to uninstall and reinstall Teams
