How to Access Globus from UPMC

Overview

Just downloading a few files? Use the Globus Web App. Sign in, search for the collection that has your files, then use the upload and download buttons.

Need to transfer files from your Mac or PC? Install Globus Connect Personal.

Option 1, for Pitt devices: Install from the Software Download Service.

Option 2, for UPMC devices: Request an install from UPMC Help Desk.

Option 3, for personal devices: Download and install for free from globus.org.

 

Installing Globus Connect Personal

1. Install Globus Connect Personal using any of the methods provided above.

2. Open it and press the Log In button.

3. Choose University of Pittsburgh and sign in with your Pitt username and password.

4. When prompted to accept Globus accessing your PC, click Allow.

5. Create your collection. Name it something unique. This is what you will search for to find your files. Do not check the “High Assurance” box.

6. Globus Connect Personal is now running in the background. Add folders by clicking the Globus icon in the system tray then selecting Options.

7. Click the plus button to add folders and mapped drives to your collection.

8. Go to the Globus Web App and search for your collection. Search for a second collection to transfer files to. Finally, click and drag to start a transfer. Example: A Globus Connect Personal collection (left) ready to transfer to the Pitt Center for Research Computing (right)

Troubleshooting

Can’t connect? Globus Connect Personal needs access to the Internet, which may not be available on some UPMC networks. See here for details and contact the UPMC Help Desk for assistance with connecting from UPMC.
